All About Me

Understanding how we are alike and different is essential to  development of children's intellectual and emotional abilities. The unit "All About Me" will help friends to learn more about themselves, their place in the world, and will give opportunities to explore many similarities and differences among themselves.
What makes us alike? We are all people. We are Jewish people. Every Jew is born with a special gift from Hashem- a Neshama, that makes us alike. But everyone has own neshama. It makes us different. What does mean "different"? There are some thoughts that friends shared.
Different means to switch. (Rachel)
Different means to go away.( Naomi)
Different means to change yourself because you want to be different. (David G. and Mordechai Yisroel)
Different means when you take something and put it at different place. (Menny)
Morah said that different means "not the same".

We are all alike. We have bodies, it makes us alike. We have different color skin, this makes us different.

We have eyes, it makes us alike. But we have different eye color, it makes us different.
Some of us are boys, some are girls. It makes us different. We all have Birthdays, but on different days. We have names, but they are all different. We learned that Jewish people get names on special days- girls on the day when Torah is read in shul, boys at 8th day from their birthday- on the day of Bris. Our names are very special. Some of us are named after our greatgrandparents or grandparents, some after Torah heroes. THe important thing we learned that people who we are named after are people who are very special and dear to us. All Pre-K Friends agreed that being different is a good thing.  It makes us special!

The letter of this week was the letter H. What a surprise! We found out that all Ema's family share last name Honore that starts with the letter of the week. To make a letter we need two big lines and one little line.

The word "Honey" starts with the letter H

The word "Horses" starts with the letter H

Happy Birthday's Reminder

Dear Parents,
Fall is a very fruitful season in every term. In fall, there are more Happy Birthdays Parties than any other season. For your information there is a a reminder about class and school policy about Birthday Parties.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES IN PRE-K CLASS
Please be aware that we will schedule your child’s Hebrew BIRTHDAY PARTY in the class.  Our class friends will bake a delicious birthday cake for your child in school, so please do not send a cake from home.  Please send in a small bag with a Tzedakah coin for each friend in our class, as we will be giving Tzedakah in honor of your child’s birthday.
Feel free to visit our “Class Wish List” (http://www.mazeldayschool.com/Templates/Hebrewschool/article_cdo/aid/969989/jewish/PreK-Wish-List.htm) with age-appropriate games and books that you can purchase as a gift for our classroom in honor of your child’s birthday.  Such a gift is meaningful and will be savored by your child (and friends) for a long time to come!  Even thought our Pre-K Wish List is updated regularly, we would like you to confirm with us if a gift was not given to us before.

You know that this day is a special for your child. We would be more than happy to see all your family joining us in celebration. Everyone is invited! Please let us know in advance whether or not you will be coming.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL

If you will be organizing a birthday party on the weekends either at home or at a party center, please note that invitations to a party outside of school may be distributed in school only if:

1) All the children in the class will be invited to the party (or all of the girls or all of the boys).
2) The party is not planned to take place on Shabbos or Jewish holiday so that children whose families are Shabbos observant and who do not live within a walking distance from where the party will take place will be able to attend. This includes Friday night and Saturday afternoon until the time that Shabbos ends.  (The time is listed on any Jewish calendar.)
3) Kosher food will be provided at the party.  As a private affair, each parent can choose what type of food they would like to serve at their child’s party (whether Kosher, non-Kosher, Chalav Yisrael dairy products, Pas Yisrael baked products, etc.).  However, we ask that all school parents invited should please be informed as to what food is Kosher/non-Kosher at the party, as well as who provides the Kosher certification on the product.  This includes pizza, drinks, cake, snacks, etc.  This way, the parent of each child attending the party can make a decision about what foods their child may eat depending on their level of Kosher observance.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at morahinna@gmail.com
Thank you and may we share many happy occasions together.

David told friends that his father bought a shoe box, mom cut out a door and David decorated it with trees, flowers and butterflies. Friends were curious to find out what was a sukkah roof made of. Sophie guessed correctly it were straws. Great Job David!!!
This coming Thursday Show and Tell host is Liza.

The letter Veis has a little line on top, a little line coming down on the side (same side that we use our hand for shma), and a big line on the bottom.
The Veis and Beis look similar but there is something different about them. The Beis has a dot while the Veis does not.
                                                                                                                          Vet

We learned that a boy chicken is called a rooster. It has a red crown and chin (wattle) and a girl chicken is called a hen.

Excitements of the week

Did you ever see a sandwich so big?

Morah Rivki told and showed us her college project- model classroom.

Helping Eliana while making honey cake.

Opposite Day

One more time our Reward Jar got filled up with 77 mitzvah marbles:)
What is it time for? Time for a PARTY!
Time for the Opposite Party. We chose the day and decided to do everything opposite. But what does the word "OPPOSITE" mean? Some friends said it is time when we can wear white. Some friends said it is when you put left shoe on right foot and right shoe on left foot. Morah said that opposite means that something is completely different from one. For example, instead of saying to each other "Good Morning" we could say "Good Night", instead of walking forward we could walk opposite way - backward.
Sophie wears "opposite colors". White and Black

One Leon's foot has a sock on, other don't - opposite:)

What a fun was to hop opposite way of forward:)

Wonder Time

Dear Parents, we happy to share with you that Pre-K Good Bye Circle is extended with small addition of "Wonder Time." Curious, like all human beings, Pre-K friends observe and soak in everything that happens around them making their own schema. The purpose of "Wonder time" is to encourage Pre-K friends to think and share their thoughts and knowledge.  We are going to keep you posted about questions we discuss during the week so you can talk about it at home.
This week, we discussed how do elephants use their trunks?
1. Elephants use their trunks to breath and smell, to push and pull things. 2. They use trunks to pick up food and put it into their mouth. 3. Elephants soak up water into their trunks and then blow it into the mouth as a drink or they blow it on themselves bathing. 4. They use their trunks to trumpet when they don't like something or scared.

This week we learned....

This week letter was the letter E.
Friends were excited to learn that Eliana's name, Ema's and her dad's name start with the letter E.
To make the letter we need one big line and three little lines. The letter E helps us to learn positions : top, middle and bottom. It is not easy job to control little lines and their positions. What do we need? Practice!

So we practiced... by making the letter using some playdough.

...by writing the letter and decorating it with stickers.
We made sure to control number of little lines and their position.

To practice the sound "E" we coked some  E-E-EGGS!
To review and master the letter and its sound please visit
