Hardware Store

On Monday, When Pre-K friends came to school there was still snow outside but just in some places. Where  did snow go? Friends shared that they saw snowcleaning trucks cleaning snow out of roads. Some friends shared that their family shoveled the snow off the home porches. Where did they take shovels? Some friends said, " In a Shovel Store". Other friends said, " In Snow Store". We decided to find such store in our community.

We found one that sell shovels. We noticed that the store sells saws, hammers, duct tapes, water hoses, paint- all things that people use for fixing a house. How do we call such store? HARDWARE STORE!

We found salt that people use to sprinkle the walk paths with.

We bought only salt because a shovel costed a bit more than we expected.

We found shovels in 99cents store.

Coming back to school, we noticed that our play ground has some snow on it. Armed with shovels, Pre-K friends worked very hard to clean snow off the ground.

This week we learned

The letter of the week was the letter P. To make a letter one needs one big line and one little line.
To review the letter P sound please visit http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/letter-p/load.htm?f

To celebrate the letter P week, Pre-K friends treat themselves with yummy PANCAKES!

We fried them and we ate them:) Pancakes were Perfect!

Our Community- Laundromat

One of the people needs is need of clothes. Friends said that people buy clothes in a Clothes Store. Friends discussed how clothes is important, what kinds of clothes we wear in different seasons, and even the matter of clothes getting dirty sometimes and what is done then.
It happened that our classroom smocks, sheets, and blankets need to be washed. What should we do? Friends said that we need to wash them in washing machines or to find a Laundromat.  Is there laundromat in our community?

We found one just around a corner. We put dirty smocks and other things into washing machines. But wait a minute! We need money, not dollars, not pennies, but QUARTERS. Where can we get it?

We found a change machine and exchanged $10 for 40 quarters.

In Laundromat, we found machine that sells detergents and softeners. We got some.

Leon put detergent into the washing machine.

Friends took turns to put quarters into  a washing machine coin slot.

After an hour Rachel and Mordechai Yisroel took washed clothes out of the washing machine.
It was wet. What should we do now?  Let's dry it, said friends.

Friends put clothes into a dryer and put more quarters into coin slot.
In an hour, our smocks were ready to be used again.

Letter Mem Sofis

This week we learned Mem Sofis. It has the same sound as the letter Mem. What then is the difference between both letters, you ask? Good question. The letter Mem can be used at the begining or in middle of a word. Example: מרדכי -or Mordechai נעמי-Naomi
The letter Mem Sofis which means final mem can only be used at the end of a word.
Example: מים-water מצרים- Mitzrayim/Egypt
Mem Sofis has an extra big line on top, one big line coming down, one big line on the bottom, and one big line coming up on the side.

Letter Mem

This week our Mailman was David. He took such care to deliver the letter Mem. It has one big line on the bottom, one big slanted line going up (like a mountain), one big slanted line coming down (like a waterfall), and one little line on the side.

Our Community- Toy Store

Everything started with a flier about the First Annunal Clothes and Toy Drive for the Belarus Orphans. Morah Inna wanted to participate in the drive along with everyone else. What could she send to children in Belarus?  What could she send to children who are as old as Pre-K Friends? Morahs asked friends for advice. "A toy", said friends. "Where I can find a toy in our community?", asked Morah. "In a toy store." said friends.
On Tuesday, friends went to find a Toy Store in the community and found one- "Kids World". When friends got into the store, they explained to a store manager that they are on a mission to find a toy that 4 years old children can enjoy together.

Saleswoman took friends around the store to show some toys.

Friends' made some choices.

Then together they voted what toy would be a great gift to 4 years old kids that they could enjoy together.

A winner was a set of paints and brushes. What a great choice Pre-K friends.

This week we learned

The letter of the week is the letter D. To make the letter one needs one big line and one big curve. Friends were excited to learn that we have two friends whose names start with this letter- David S. and David G.
We learned as well that Liza's dad name, Menny's dad name, Jason's dad name and Moradechai Yisroel's brother name start with the letter D.

During math centers Pre-K friends learn about money.
Pre-K friends know that money is an important part of our lives. We use it to buy what we need, go to the movies. It is important that we all know how to use money because it is used almost everywhere. Coins are a very important part of the money system.  What is the best way to teach children something?  It is to give them chance to experience it. In our classroom, we set a pretend store where friends sell pretend food but for real money. This week we added NICKEL to a store register.
