This week we learned

This week we learned the letter C. To make the letter one needs one curve.
The letter c doesn't have own sound. It borrows the sound of the letter k. It says /k/ like in caterpillar, cake, or cookie.

We went on the letter C hunt.

We made the letter C of something that starts with this letter.
CUCUMBER

All About Me- Feeling Sad

Feeling sad is not happy feeling. Everyone feels sad sometimes. Feeling sad is okay. Sometimes we aren't able to do something we really want to do. For example, to go on a party when we sick. We feel sad. Sometimes things that we like very much get lost or ruined. We feel sad. Sometimes pets die like Pre-K pet Bubble died. We felt sad. That is what Pre-K friends said make them sad,
I felt sad when my cat died. (Naomi)
I feel sad when my parents leave without my on vocation. (Rachel)
I feel sad when someone is mean to me. (David S.)
I feel sad when my brother doesn't share with me. (Leon)
I feel sad when friends don't want to play with me. (Sophie)
I feel sad when someone screams at me. (Ari)

When we feel sad, we feel very unhappy. We don't have to feel sad forever. There are things we can do to make ourselves feel better. When we cannot do somethings we want to do, we can find something else to do instead. When something we like is lost or ruined, we can ask someone to help us to look for a thing or try to fix it. When people you love leave, find out where they are going and when they will be back. If anyone mean to you, try to avoid them. Don't talk to meanies, don't play with meanies. Talk about your feelings with adults or with your friends.

Shabbos Book

We have a new Shabbos coloring book. Once it will be finished we will have a new Shabbos Book that we filled in ourselves.

Friends sharing space so we can all color together.

All About Me- Feeling Frustrated

Feeling Frustrated is not happy feeling. Everyone feels frustrated once in a while. Sometimes things don't happen the way we want them to happen. We want to go on a playground but not clean up our room. We feel frustrated. Sometimes things don't work the way the are supposed to. We feel frustrated. Sometimes we can't do things that we want to do. For example, jump in puddles in brain new sneakers. We feel frustrated. When we feel frustrated, we feel disappointed. Pre-K friends shared with each other what makes them frustrated. There is what they say,
I feel frustrated when someone takes my toys without permission. (Naomi)
I feel disappointed when someone hits me. (Mordechai Yisroel)
I feel frustrated when someone doesn't share his toys. (Rachel)
I feel frustrated when my friend doesn't give me back my pink puddle. (Ema)

I feel frustrated when someone takes my toys. (David S.)
I feel frustrated when someone yells at me. (Liza
I felt frustrated when one of my friends didn't give me a drill toy. (Menny)
I feel frustrated when one of my friends doesn't share with me. (Mickey)
I feel frustrated when I try to talk to one of my friends but she doesn't listen to me. (Eliana)

I feel frustrated when someone makes me unsafe when I am trying to get up the ladder.(Jason)
I feel frustrated when my friend doesn't share with me. (David G.)
I feel frustrated when someone makes me eat that I don't want. (Leon)

When we frustrated, we might need to do something with our energy . It's okay to cry but it will not resolve our frustration. We need to STOP, THINK, and MAKE A RIGHT CHOICE.  It is best sometimes to walk away for few minutes from the things or people that frustrate us, take a break, and breath - "smell a flower, blow a candle.", then come back and try to figure out what is wrong. Try to talk to your friend, find someone who can help you to resolve the issue, or try to avoid things that you know will frustrate you. Remeber everyone gets frustrated sometimes. Feeling frustrated is okay. The important thing is to handle your frustration in a positive way.
P.S. Dear Parents,
it is time to help your kids to name their feelings. When they feel frustrated, acknowledge it. Talk about your feelings honestly as well.

Letter Tes

Our Mail Carrier Rachel was on route Monday morning delivered a letter to our Pre-K classroom.
Hmmm....? We wondered which letter it was? Rachel then pulled it out from her bag. It was the Hebrew letter Tes.
Tes has one big line going down, one big line across on the bottom, one big line going up, and one little slanted line.
We all took turns telling what shape we each thought the letter Tes looks like.
Jason said he thinks it looks like the letter Mem.
Menny said he thinks it looks like the crown of the Torah.
Menny dressed up with a tallis over his shoulders and held a siddur in his hands up in the air, he then bent his head. Can you guess which letter he looked like? You got it. He looked like the letter Tes. We ten all tried forming the letter Tes with our bodies.

All About Me- Feeling Afraid

This week we talked about FEELINGS. We are all alike, we all have feelings. Sometimes we feel happy, sometimes we feel sad. Some times we are excited, some times we feel afraid. We found out that no one likes to be scared or afraid. It is not a happy feeling.  This makes us alike.  Discussing this feeling we found out that different things make us feel scared. For example, things that we don't know anything about, or scary thoughts. When we are scared we might feel helpless, or might feel like running away. There is what friends said that  they are afraid or scared of...
I feel scared when it is dark. (Ari)
I felt afraid when I fell off the ladder. (Jason)
I feel scared of getting sick when I am wet and cold. (Sophie)
I feel scared when a stranger comes to my house. (Ema)
I feel scared when I think I hear a monster noise coming from my window at 12 o'clock at night. (David S.)
I feel scared when I hear strange noises. (Eliana)
I would be scared to stay at home alone . (Mordechai Yisroel)
I feel scared when I hear branches scratching my window. (Rachel)
I feel afraid when I sleep because I think of owls. (Leon)
I feel scared when it is dark. (Mickey)
I feel afraid when I hear strange noise. (Naomi)
I feel afraid when I climb a tall tree. I think it might fall on me. (Menny)
We discussed that a good way to resolve our fears is to talk to someone about it. Sometimes we'll find out that we don't need to be scared or afraid of what is scaring us. At the same time it is better to avoid (don't do) things that might scare us like watching scary movies, listening to scary stories, or thinking scary thoughts. Feeling afraid is ok. The important thing is to do whatever we can to resolve our fear.
P.S. Dear Parents, "Feelings" unit gives you great opportunity to discuss with your child every one's fears. Please let your child know that it is "ok" feeling, some times this feeling keeps us away from real danger. The important thing to talk to somebody about your fears and resolve them.

Letter Ches

Mailman Eliana brought us mail in her messenger bag. What was it? It was the letter Ches.
Ches has one big line on top, and two big lines coming down.
We knew someones name begins with the letter Ches and knew it wasnt anyone in our class. Who's name could it be? We tried guessing by playing process of elimination of all the Morahs in preschool until we got it. It was Morah Chani!!
The letter Ches has the same shape as a Chuppah-  a canopy under which a marriage is performed. We had a pretend mock wedding under a Chuppah with a Chosson and Kallah, relatives, and guests followed by music and dancing. We all got to see first hand that a chuppah looks like a ches. It was really exciting.
