Dear Parents,
We are so excited to start a new project in our Pre-K class, implementing the idea of one of our parents. With selection of age-appropriate books, we created the Pre-K Library. Every week, friends will be able to select a book or two to borrow and take home to read. A book should be returned by the next week then new books could be borrowed.
If you have any questions or you want to donate a book to our classroom library, we will be happy to hear from you.
Enjoy your reading time!

Homework Dos and Don'ts
Dear Parents,
There are some do's and don't in helping your child with homework.
Do make sure that child has a pair of scissors, glue stick, and crayons to do homework.
Do praise child for waiting for instructions to be read, following them, focusing on the assignment, doing work neatly.
Praising, describe what you see. For example, instead of saying "Good job" say "I noticed you controlled a crayon and did not let it go out of the picture." "I see that you keep scissors on a line while cutting".
Do correct pencil or crayon grip.
Do use recommended website (posted on our blog as a part of "This week we learned" entry) to help your child learn letters and sounds.
Do let us know if child experience any difficulties doing homework.
Helping a child to learn how to write a letter, do write with a highlighter using only upper case letters.
Do know that sometimes children flip letters while writing. It is age appropriate. But still, show a child how letter should look like.
Do write comments on child's homework. It is greatly appreciated!
Do not do homework for your child! NONE! No coloring, not even gluing! I know you love your child and ready to take any difficult task upon yourself.
Be positive and be patient.
This week we learned
The letter of the week was the letter F. To make the letter we need one big line and two little lines.
We learned many words that start with the letter F: fire, frog, fish, friends, fingers, and fathers.
We learn how to make the letter "F" using our body and learn how to make /f/ sound using a feather.

Pre-K Shabbos Box
Dear Parents,
We have a special Shabbos Box that we'll be sending home with one child every Friday.
Inside you will find candle sticks, candles (by lighting the candles and saying the blessing Friday night we are welcoming in the Shabbos), grape juice ( we sanctify shabbos over a cup of wine or grape juice), kiddush cup, challah ( it symbolizes theh extra portion of the Manna G-D sent down to the Jews in the dessert for shabbos), challah cover, challah board, and salt (salt adds taste to food. Our bond with G-D is supposed to add meaning and flavor to our lives.)
By using the items in the box you will enable your child and family to experience the beauty of Shabbos.
Enjoy!

The letter of the week
The letter of the week was the letter "L". To make the letter L one needs just two lines: one big and one little. Friends were excited to discover that two of their friends names start with the letter of the week- Liza and Leon. It is not all! David's mom's name and Naomi's grandma's name start with this letter too- Lily and Luda.
Friends got so excited about the letter L that they made it out of bread, cheese, and out of cookie dough.

We played silly "L" game adding it to everyone's name. For example, Jason -Lason, Eliana- Leliana, Ema -Lema :) We had fun!

Weather Policy
As fall is taking full rights, we start to see dramatic changes in weather conditions. Let’s face it, it is not getting warmer. That is why we feel necessary to talk about school weather policy. One of our strong believes is that children benefit from vigorous mental and physical exercise. That is why we take every day in account and bring children outside to play on fresh air.
Outside play on windless days when the temperature is above 32 F is recommended by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. We will make decisions about going outside based on a combination of factors - wind speed and amount of precipitation.
PLEASE take responsibility to check the weather before you send a child to school and dress him or her accordingly.
P.S. Layers are great! We can always “peel them off” if it gets warm.
Weekly Reader
Goal of Pre-K year is to prepare our children to be motivated readers, explorers and learner. The Weekly Reader is a tool to help children to develop critical thinking and early reading skills. Colorful images and age appropriate non-fiction makes learning exciting and inviting. There is how to use an issue,
- Point to the cover page, ask how the photo and words on the cover can give clues to what is the issue about. Ask, “What do you think we are going to read about?”
- Guide a child in turning pages. Point out page numbers.
- Ask to describe what he or she sees on a picture? How can he or she tell? What else do he or she notices in a picture?
- Make it personal. Invite child to talk about his or her school day. What does he or she like to do or don't like to do in school?
Enjoy the Weekly Reader together! It is a part of Friday homework.

Happy GrandParents Day!
This Sunday was not an ordinary day. It was the Grandparent's Day! In the class we learned that grandpas and grandmas are mommies and tatties of moms and dads. We discussed what do we know about grandparents. When Morah asked friends if they ever will be grandparents, they said.... "NO!":)
Pre-K Pictures
Dear Parents,
We are very excited to share with you a link to Pre-K pictures http://prek5772.shutterfly.com/
Take an opportunity to make the viewing pictures event into your "family time" or "one on one time" with your child. Let him or her comment on pictures, ask names of new friends, ask open-ended questions that required more than "yes" or "no" answer.
P.S. Please let us know if you have any issues opening the link.
