Measurement- Length and Heigth

People measure things for different purposes. Some want to know how long some things are, others what to know how tall.  Pre-K Friends learned what is length. To find out length means to find how long thing is. To measure things we use rulers or measuring tape, but in times when they are not available we can use something else- shoes, feet, or even coins. When we use something besides the ruler, we call it nonstandard units

Rachel uses nonstandard units-  pennies to measure the length of a block. There are some rules which friends follow when they use nonstandard measurements.
1. Use only one kind of items in a time to measure things to get accurate measurements.  For example, in the class we have a box filled with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Friends used only one kind of coins to measure length of blocks.
2. Start at very beginning and don't leave any space between nonstandard units.

What is height? It is a distance between bottom and the top of a thing.
Leon uses Lego to measure heigth of a chair.

Friends play "How tall am I?" game that was kindly presented to Pre-K Friends by Ari's Family.

Letter Fay Sofis

Liza was our Mail Carrier. She brought us an extra long letter. Which one was it? It was Letter Fay Sofis. It has a little line on top, an extra big line coming down, jump back up and make an extra little line on the side, and an extra little line in the middle. Fay Sofis is a letter that always goes at the end of a word.
Our Fay got tired from walking around so it got up to stretch and hence, it looks like Fay Sofis.

Letter Fay

Ari the Mailman brought us the letter Fay. It looks just like letter Pay but without the dot.
Pay sounds like P and Fay sounds like F.
Letter Pay looks like a "Peel" - elephant ready to eat a "peanut" (the dot inside Pay). After it ate and finished the peanut, it isn't Pay anymore since the peanut is gone. Now it becomes the Letter Fay.

Wonder Time!

The question of the week was " Why do bees sting?"
Some friends thought that bees sting to make honey.
We learned that bees don't sting anyone to be mean- they just use their stingers to protect themselves. Most people and animals know that bees sting and that it really huts, so we stay away.

Literacy Month continues...:)

Pre-K Friends were so excited to have Rachel's dad as a guest in our classroom. He read friends a great book in Hebrew. Friends listened carefully recognizing some familiar words. The book was about a little egg that wanted to make friends. No one was intersted in being a friend with him because they thought he is just an egg. The egg tried different ways, he even put different costumes on pretending to be a flower but everytime he would be recognized for who he trully was just an egg.

Emma's Show and Tell

This week it was Emma's Show and Tell! Emma brought one of her Barbie dolls, Anna. Emma said that she loves to sleep with the doll. She said as well that Anna can be very very silly. When friends asked Emma why did she bring the doll for Show and Tell, Emma said that she likes her a lot.

Friendship Book

Friendship. What it is? Pre-K friends said that when you are a friend to many people and you do things together. Pre-K Class decided to make a book explaining NOs and YESes in Friendship.
"NO" is a very strong word. Sometimes it makes you sad. For example, when mom says "No ice cream".
Sometimes it makes you safe. For example, when mom says "No talking to a stranger! "
There are some NOs that keep you safe and teach you what to expect from others.
"NO bitting!"
"NO spitting!"
"NO teasing!"
"NO saying to do wrong things!"
"NO hurtful words!"
Pre-K Friends agreed that our mouth should be used for peaceful things like eating and drinking, smiling, saying polite words like "Thank You", brushing teeth.

What about these NOs
"NO hitting!"
"NO pulling hair!"
"NO pushing!"
"NO grabbing!"
"NO pinching!"These NOs keep you safe and peaceful and teach you what to expect of others.
Pre-K Friends agreed that we can use our hands for peaceful things like holding markers, toys, or kite, throwing a ball, picking up flowers, holding hands while walking, cooking, or giving hugs.

There are more NOs that keep you safe and peaceful.
"NO kicking!"
"NO cutting off one while walking or running!"
Friends agreed that our feet should be used for different things like running, jumping, skipping, walking to shul, dancing and racing."

Next week, Pre-K Friends are going to discuss excited Friendship Yeses!
To Be Continued...

Excitments of the week

Every day in Pre-K is an exciting day! On Monday, we went in GYM!
Thank you, dear Parents, for bringing us in school in time:)

A little piece of chalk can do! The chalk made our Playground Time into the Drawing and Writing Time!
The playground was covered with pictures and letters.

This week weather was nice and warm! Some days we went outside even two times!

The Lollipop Party was Naomi's Idea! Friends made lollipop crowns, they danced "Sticky Lollipop Dance", and of course got to eat a lollipop.

Pre-K Idea Jar is empty. BUT, no worries! In Pre-K friends' heads, there is always an idea how to celebrate filled full " Pre-K Mitzvah Marble Jar"! There are to your attention, a new list of ideas.

This week we learned

As Naomi said," It is my letter week!" Yes! The letter N was the letter of the week.
Along with Naomi, it was Leon's mom Natasha and Eliana's dad Nathtali week. To make the letter N one needs three big lines. When we write the letter, we start from the top. Big line goes down, jump on the top, slide down and go straight up!
Menny noticed that he has 2 letters N in his name. Eliana noticed that in her name the letter N stands between two As.  Leon and Jason noticed that there names have the letter N at the end of their names!
To review the letter N go to http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/letter-n/load.htm?f
To pre-teach next week letter- the letter W go to http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/letter-w/load.htm?f

Wonder Time

This week question was  "HOW do horses sleep?"
Some friends thought that horses lay down on the ground that is a true. But usually horses sleep standing up. There legs lock in place to keep the animal from falling over. Friends were right! Horses can lie down, but because they are heavy,l it takes a lot of energy for them to get back up.  We should not try to sleep standing up because our knees do not lock, and we will probably fall over!

Fun Fact! Do you know how long it takes a baby horse to learn to walk after being born? An hour! How long it takes a human baby?

Purim Masquerade Party

Putting food into a Shalach Manos Box to be given to a poor person.

In the Purim story it may seem Hashem wasn't present or involved. Yet, the miracles came about through Him. We get dressed up in costumes which hide who we really are to remind us of the hidden miracles Hashem performed for us.
