Letter Koof

This week Mickey brought us the letter Koof. It has one little line on top, one little line coming down, and one big line on the other side. Dont get confused with the letter Hay and Koof. The hay has a little line and the koof has a big line.

Kiddush begins with letter Koof

Excitements of the week

On Monday, all Mazel Day School gathered together in synagogue to celebrate beginning of new month- Iyar. The month of Lag Baomer and Shavuos! Morah Chanie called one friend from each grade. Friends shared with all school what they are thankful for. Eliana represented our class and she said that she is thankful for her family. Good answer, Eliana!

On Thursday, friends visited the Prospect Park Zoo as an ideal review of the lesson about kosher
and not kosher animals and future lessons about animals. Friends have discovered a nice addition to the Zoo- two beautiful Australians- Dingos.

Five tiny caterpillars arrived in a small jar in our classroom.
Friends will get a chance to observe a miracle of metamorphosis.

Our World - Water

What Hashem created on second day? Water!
What do friends know about water? Friends said that we drink water.
It is true, people can't live without water even few days.
Animals and plants- all living things- need water.
Morah said that water gives us the fastest way to cool off, the fastest way to get clean.
In the class, we learned about water properties - smell, color, shape. Friends discovered that water has the smell of fresh cool water. It doesn't have any shape. Water takes shape of any container it is in. When we poured it in a cup, it took shape of a cup. When we poured it in a vase, it took shape of vase.  Water doesn't have any color but a spoon of coffee will make it brown, a drop of yellow food coloring  will turn it yellow.
Other important property of water is that it likes to stick to everything. It stick to us and make us wet, it stick to our clothes and makes it wet. Water loves to make things wet.

Next week, Pre-K friends will learn about where water comes from, about water cycle and different matters, and rainbow:)

Our World - Light (II)

This week friends continued to learn about properties of the light.
Friends learn that light travels in straight lines and it goes everywhere; it goes through things that are transparent. Transparent means clear or see through. Such things like glass, window, water, even some plastic are transparent. The light could be blocked by opaque things. Walls, doors, blocks, books, people are opaque. When light is blocked by an opaque object it stops. An opaque object forms a shadow.

Friends learned that position of the shadow depends on position of the sun. If sun is in front of us, shadow is behind. If sun is behind us, shadow is in front.

Happy Birthday David!

Mazel Tov to our friend David G.
who turned 5 years old!
Morah and Friends wish David to be healthy, to learn Torah and
have a lot of friends!

Pre-K class send their Mazel Tov to David's parents. May you have a lot of simcha from David. Thank you for fun toys friends got in honor of David's Happy Birthday!

Letter Tzaddik Sofis

Sophie was our Mail Carrier who brought us letter Tzaddik Sofis. It has the same sound as letter Tzaddik. Tzaddik can be used at the beginning or middle of a word. Tzaddik Sofis can only be used at the end of a word such as eitz-tree. It has one big slanted line, and one little slanted line.

Letter Tzaddik

Letter Tzaddik has a big slanted line going down, a big line across on bottom, jump back up to make a little slanted line on the big slanted line.
Tzaddik looks like a tzaddik ( a holy man) davening with his hands high in the air.
Tzaddik begins a word like Tzippor- bird.
