All About Me- Feeling Afraid

This week we talked about FEELINGS. We are all alike, we all have feelings. Sometimes we feel happy, sometimes we feel sad. Some times we are excited, some times we feel afraid. We found out that no one likes to be scared or afraid. It is not a happy feeling.  This makes us alike.  Discussing this feeling we found out that different things make us feel scared. For example, things that we don't know anything about, or scary thoughts. When we are scared we might feel helpless, or might feel like running away. There is what friends said that  they are afraid or scared of...
I feel scared when it is dark. (Ari)
I felt afraid when I fell off the ladder. (Jason)
I feel scared of getting sick when I am wet and cold. (Sophie)
I feel scared when a stranger comes to my house. (Ema)
I feel scared when I think I hear a monster noise coming from my window at 12 o'clock at night. (David S.)
I feel scared when I hear strange noises. (Eliana)
I would be scared to stay at home alone . (Mordechai Yisroel)
I feel scared when I hear branches scratching my window. (Rachel)
I feel afraid when I sleep because I think of owls. (Leon)
I feel scared when it is dark. (Mickey)
I feel afraid when I hear strange noise. (Naomi)
I feel afraid when I climb a tall tree. I think it might fall on me. (Menny)
We discussed that a good way to resolve our fears is to talk to someone about it. Sometimes we'll find out that we don't need to be scared or afraid of what is scaring us. At the same time it is better to avoid (don't do) things that might scare us like watching scary movies, listening to scary stories, or thinking scary thoughts. Feeling afraid is ok. The important thing is to do whatever we can to resolve our fear.
P.S. Dear Parents, "Feelings" unit gives you great opportunity to discuss with your child every one's fears. Please let your child know that it is "ok" feeling, some times this feeling keeps us away from real danger. The important thing to talk to somebody about your fears and resolve them.
