That's right! Family is a group of people who relate to each other like our parents or grandparents, sisters and brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles. Family does a lot of things together- family members share last name, they live together, celebrate Yom Tovs and Birthdays together, but most of all family are people who love and care for each other.
Morah told friends a story about two brothers. The younger brother was married and had big family, the older was all alone. They lived on opposite sides of a mountain. Even though they did not live together, brothers often think about each other. One night the younger brother could not fell asleep, he was thinking about his brother. "How lonely and sad he might be", thought youngest brother. He decided secretly give a bag of grain to his oldest brother. At the middle of the night, he went over the mountain and left a bag in his brother barn. In the morning, the oldest brother noticed an extra bag and was very surprised but he started to think of this younger brother. "My brother, he thought, work so hard. He has so many children to feed. I should help him". So as night arrived, the older brother took a bag of grain and carried it over to his brother's barn. The youngest one was thinking about the lonely brother and the oldest one thought about youngest brother who had many children. One night, as they were sneaking over to each other's barn, they bumped into each other on the top of the mountain, realized what the other one was doing, and they cried and hugged each other. Hashem was so happy to see two brothers taking care of each other, that He wanted that place where such love was expressed to be the site of the Beis Hamekdash- Holy Temple.
Next week we are going to learn about respect and responsibilities in family.
